Studio Policy
Tuition / Payment
Tuition is due before or at the first lesson of each month.
Tuition may be paid via cash, PayPal, or Venmo. No checks.
Payments received after the 10th of the month will incur a late fee of $20. This late charge will be paid at the time that the monthly tuition is received.
Tuition will remain fixed from month to month, regardless of the number of lessons. Lessons falling during holidays and breaks listed in the Studio Calendar are included in the monthly rate and will not be credited or refunded. There will be 46 lessons per year. (August-July)
Monthly tuition will not be reduced or refunded regardless of how many lessons are missed for any reasons. Whether it is only one missed lesson, or multiple absences in the course of a long period of time, monthly tuition will remain the same. (See Make-up Lessons)
Failure to remit tuition payments will result in forfeiture of your reserved slot. Due to financial obligations, the slot will be reallocated to a new student.
There may be times when a lesson may be cancelled by the teacher. If this happens, the first thing we will do is to see if the teacher has given extra lessons that were not charged. If this is the case, the extra lesson that was given will cover for her absence. If there were no extra lessons given, we will try to negotiate and find a good day to partake in a make-up lesson. If a make-up is not possible, a charge will not be incurred for the missed lesson.
If a cancelation occurs after the monthly fee has been collected, a credit will be given back per lesson amount in the following month.
Tuition covers the time spent with parent/student, as well as the time spent preparing for lessons. The payment will secure specific weekly lesson times that are reserved exclusively for the student.
Student’s books and materials are NOT included in the tuition.

In-person Lessons / Studio Procedures
Arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the lesson. If a student arrives late, there is no guarantee for a full lesson.
Please do not come to lesson if the student is sick or a family member is contagious.
The teacher reserves the right to send a student home if they arrive ill and/or are contagious to others.
Please remove your shoes upon entering the house. You may bring a clean pair of socks or indoor shoes to wear in the studio.
Shortly trimmed nails are a must.
Students should arrive with clean hands. Instruments are expensive and require exceptional respect. Students may be asked to wash their hands if necessary.
No food or drinks are allowed near or on top of any of the instruments or piano benches.
Depending on the student, parents of young students are required to attend and observe each lesson to be better able to support the student at home.
Please understand that students actively moving their fingers on the piano is not only part of lessons. I talk with them to understand them as whole, we watch YouTube videos, listen to music, draw, play games, and do other activities. They are all part of lessons.
I do my best to verbally describe how to use their body and demonstrate, however sometimes physical contact is unavoidable in order to teach students proper use of their body.
Lesson time must remain as focused as possible. Siblings are welcome to attend provided they remain quiet.
There are times when students behave better without parents. In that situation, parents will be asked to wait in the car.
The studio is an extension of the private residence and must be regarded and respected as such. Please be considerate of our property, furniture, instruments and items in our place. In the event of something being broken or damaged by accident, payment may be requested to repair or replace the broken item.
There are 2 cats at our home. They are sweet but they may scratch or bite. If you are allergic to cats, please come at your own risk.
Parking is available on the driveway. If you park under a tree, please be advised that sometimes the trees will drop a stick or two. Please do not park or block the attached garage. Make sure to lock all doors. We are not responsible for your automobile or any transportation device, including the items inside.
Make-up Lessons
There is NO guarantee of make-up lessons.
Make-up lessons are offered when a student gives notification of an anticipated absence at least 48 hours in advance.
If a scheduled make-up lesson is cancelled, another make-up option will not be offered.
Lessons that are missed without 48-hour notice or are “no shows” will not be offered a make-up lesson. An exception would be in the case of an illness or emergency.
Depending on the situations, make-up lessons can be held either in-person, online, or through written/video feedback based on a recording sent to the teacher.
In the event that a lesson must be cancelled and make-up is not desired, it is kindly requested that any advanced notice would be appreciated.
Online Lessons
Online lessons will take place via LINE, Zoom, or WhatsApp.
Viable reasons for an online lesson:
・Makeup lessons
・The teacher or a student is ill/contagious but feels well enough to have lesson.
・A family member is ill/contagious but the student is well.
・Inclement weather prevents students from traveling.
Piano at home
Students must have an acoustic piano at home to practice on (Exception: Adult students can take lessons with a 88-key full weighted digital piano.) If the student is using an electric weighted keyboard, lessons may begin but will eventually need to upgrade to an acoustic piano.
It should be tuned at least once a year. Ask your piano technician to check the functions of all pedals and keys.
An adjustable bench is necessary for students of all ages. A foot stool or pedal extender are required for children.
Practice Expectations
Daily practice is expected.
Ideal practice time:
If you are taking 30min lessons, aim to practice 30 minutes per day*. Your weekly goal is 3 hours or more. (*For young students, two 15-minute practices daily also work well.) If you are taking 45min lessons, aim to practice 45 minutes per day. Weekly goal is 4.5 hours or more. If you are taking 60min lessons, aim to practice 60 minutes per day. Weekly goal is 6 hours or more.
It is the parents’ responsibility to set aside time for daily practice for young students until they reach an age where they can be more self-directed in their practicing.
If a student is not able to complete their homework on their own and shows no progress, parental involvement at home will be requested.
Recitals
If we decide to do a recital, there are a few things that must be taken into consideration.
・There may be extra charges for participants and family members to help cover the cost.
・Students’ pieces must be brought to performance level at least by two weeks prior to the event.
・Depending on the occasion, strict dress code rules may be applied.
Exam / Competition
Eligible students will be invited to participate in the annual National Federation of Music Club Piano Festival event, Florida Federation of Music Club Jr. Convention and/or Greater Jax City Competition.
Privacy
For safety, please do not post the studio’s personal information and/or pictures and videos on a website, blog, any social media platform without permission. (Ex; Home address, property pictures, phone number, e-mail address, family’s pictures and their information, and other students and their family’s pictures and information etc.)
For home practice purpose, I share YouTube links of my demonstrations/explanations of the pieces your child is learning. Those videos are NOT published to the public and only the people who has the links have access to them. Please do not share them with others.
Termination Policy (For students looking to leave)
If you wish to discontinue lessons, please let the teacher know in advance. Any advanced notice would be greatly appreciated.
