About
Meet your teacher, Mrs. Aya
I was born and raised in Japan, where my musical journey began at a young age with the organ. However, my true passion was always for the piano. After several years of playing the organ, I transitioned into learning piano, embracing the instrument that resonated with me the most.
My journey underwent a significant change when I relocated to the United States and started lessons with an exceptional Russian piano teacher. This experience transformed my perception of technique and expression. I realized that my habit was leading to hand injuries and limiting my creative potential. Committed to growth, I opted for beginner lessons, focusing on retraining my technique and reawakening my musicality from the very basics.
My journey into teaching began with a heartfelt desire when my older child wanted to learn the piano. Facing the challenge of finding a local teacher skilled in the Russian method, I decided to take the initiative and teach my child at home. The joy of seeing my child play beautifully with proper technique was a rewarding experience for me.
In my studio, I primarily teach classical piano using so-called the Russian piano technique. It is a piano playing technique that has been preserved and refined in the country, and was passed down from Beethoven. Students learn to effectively harness the weight of their arms, hands, and fingers to create beautiful sounds while staying relaxed, and adhering to an ergonomic approach that aligns with the body's natural mechanics. By mastering this technique, they can explore the entire piano range, discover various tonal qualities, and express their artistry in performances. My aim is to develop well-rounded musicians who can convey their message through music.

30 min: $140.00
(Beginner Students only)
45 min: $200.00
(Beginner to intermediate students)
60 min: $260.00
(Intermediate to Advanced students)
(Students who take 30min lesson twice a week will be charged this rate)

Instuments
In order to gain proper technique and musical development, a well-maintained acoustic piano is necessary.
If the student is using an electric weighted keyboard, lessons may begin but will need to upgrade to an acoustic piano as soon as possible. (Exception: Adult students can take lessons with a 88-key full weighted digital piano.)
An adjustable bench is necessary for students of all ages.
A foot stool or pedal extender are required for children.
New beginner (Children)
Accepting students of the age 5 and above.
I use toys and games to help students learn fundamental skills in a fun and engaging way. As gaining proper technique is not easy for young students, the parents are expected to be in the lesson and help them with daily practice at home. (Parents do not have to have experience in piano playing. I will guide both parents and students step by step.)
Transferred Student (Children)
Accepting beginner and intermediate
Refining piano skills is essential for children who already have some experience. With proper guidance, they can eliminate any bad habits and learn new techniques. Depending on the habits formed, students may revisit beginner materials while working on repertoire suited to their current level.
New beginner (Adult)
It's never too late to start playing the piano!
Some books for adult beginner focus on chords from the very first lessons by skipping important fundamental skills. My main focus is to let the piano sing beautifully, so the lessons will start from very important steps of creating beautiful tones. Get ready to unlock your musical potential and have fun along way!
